A thoughtful approach to children’s speech

If you’re worried about your child’s speech, it can be hard to know whether they need support or what kind of help would be most useful.

I take time to understand the pattern of your child’s speech, not just the individual sounds they find difficult. From there, therapy is carefully tailored to their needs, with clear goals, practical activities and support for practice at home.

The aim is to build speech skills steadily and help your child feel successful and confident as they make progress.

How I can help

Some children need extra support to develop clear, confident speech.

I work with children who:

  • Have speech that is difficult to understand

  • Use unusual or persistent speech sound patterns

  • Have difficulty producing particular sounds

  • Have a lisp or other speech error that has continued beyond the early years

  • Need support to carry new speech skills into everyday conversation

Support begins with understanding your child’s speech profile properly. From there, I develop a clear, individualised plan with practical therapy and manageable practice between sessions.

Speech Assessment

Assessment helps build a clear understanding of your child’s speech profile. This may include parent discussion, observation, listening activities and structured speech assessment tasks.

Following the assessment, I will explain what I have noticed, whether therapy is recommended, and what the most helpful next steps may be. This ensures that any therapy plan is focused, appropriate and tailored to your child.

Speech Therapy

Therapy is tailored to your child’s individual speech needs, age and pace.

Sessions are structured yet engaging, with clear goals and plenty of opportunities to practise new sounds and speech patterns.

I will provide practical guidance for practice between sessions, so progress can continue at home and in everyday conversation.

Progress is reviewed regularly, and therapy is adapted as your child’s speech develops.

What to Expect

Every child is different, but my approach is always grounded in the same values: calm, clarity and meaningful progress.

I take time to understand your child’s speech properly — including the sounds and patterns they find difficult, how this affects everyday communication, and what will help them make progress.

Step 1 – Get in Touch

Please email me with a little information about your child and your concerns about their speech.

I’ll let you know whether I’m likely to be the right therapist for your child and what the next step would be. If another type of support seems more appropriate, I’ll always be honest about that.

Step 2 – Assessment

Assessment helps me build a clear picture of your child’s speech strengths and difficulties.

Depending on your child, this may include conversation, play-based activities, listening tasks and specific speech sound assessment.

Afterwards, I’ll explain what I have noticed, whether therapy is recommended and what I think would be most helpful to focus on.

Step 3 – Tailored Therapy

Therapy is designed around your child’s age, interests and individual speech needs.

Sessions are practical, supportive and evidence-informed, with clear goals and plenty of opportunities to practise new speech skills successfully.

Parents are involved throughout, with simple guidance for practice between sessions so progress can carry over into everyday speech.

I currently offer a small number of weekday appointments, including online sessions where clinically appropriate.

Step 4 – Review and Progress

We’ll review your child’s progress regularly and adapt therapy as their speech develops.

The aim is for therapy to feel focused, collaborative and manageable, with a clear sense of what we are working towards and when support may no longer be needed.

I believe communication is deeply personal. It is shaped by culture, family, relationships and the everyday experiences children have.

Supporting speech is not simply about correcting individual sounds. It is about understanding the child as a whole and helping them feel clear, confident and understood.

With over 15 years’ experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, I now focus my independent work on children with speech sound difficulties.

My approach is calm, structured and collaborative. I take time to understand each child’s speech profile, strengths, confidence and communication style before building a plan that feels clear, purposeful and manageable for the family.

Families are involved throughout, with practical guidance and a shared understanding of what we are working on, why it matters and how new skills can carry into everyday conversation.
